To determine the molar concentration of acetic acid in commercial vinegar by titration with standardized NaOH.

Commercial vinegar contains approximately 0.83 M acetic acid (about 5% by mass).

Burette, 25 mL pipette, 0.100 M NaOH, phenolphthalein indicator, conical flask, vinegar sample

Pipette 25.0 mL of vinegar into a flask, add indicator, and titrate with NaOH until a faint pink endpoint persists for 30 seconds. Repeat for three concordant titres.

Mean titre 20.6 mL NaOH → 0.082 mol acetic acid per 25 mL = 0.82 M.

The measured 0.82 M is within 1% of the hypothesised value; minor error likely from endpoint judgement. Results support the ~5% labelling.

A moving, still-relevant read; Scout's narration makes hard themes accessible without softening them.
